Weight Gain Problem

by krbg3, Jan 02, 2009 12:13PM
Just after I was born was large intestine and 1/2 my small one was removed.  I am now 21, and have been very skinny my whole life (I am a male, and weight about 120lbs).  no matter what I eat, It passes right through me, and I haven't gained a significant amoutn of weight in years.  Because of my condition, is there any hope that I may be able to gain some weight - maybe down the road?  Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Krbg, I believe with having had about half of your small intestine removed and with the whole of the colon gone, there will be little possibility that you'd be able to put on weight. Your body will lack the ability to take up a large amount of nutrients to be able to use them in building a lot of muscle. And unfortuantely as you already know if you add more, that, too, will end up going through you pretty rapidly.

You could try to slow things down a bit by adding more 'fiber content' but it probably won't change things a lot as far as the weight issue is concerned.
