Weird feeling when swallowing/excessive swallowing

I think it was around 5 days ago that this all started. I swallowed and it felt like there was mucous in my throat. So I coughed a few times but nothing came up. I tried to force myself to cough some more and tried to get it out. Nothing. No signs of mucous in my spit. Now I notice I'm swallowing almost constantly, which is leaving my mouth very dry. I sometimes gag when swallowing because there isn't enough saliva when I try and swallow, even though I still feel like I need to swallow. It's getting very annoying to keep swallowing and gagging, and this feeling in my throat hasn't gotten any better. Even when I drink water, the feeling stays in my throat.

My father said it might be allergies, but there's no cough (other than my forced coughs) and I don't have any other allergy related symptoms. Plus, I've never had any allergies before.

So what could be going on? Should I see a doctor?
