What can cause an aggrevation of an ulcer?

by Bookworm, Jun 12, 2001 12:00AM
I have been diagnosed with a duodenal ulcer about seven years ago...I am on the medication Ranitidine and have been doing okay...yesterday I lifted some heavy boxes of paper and a couple of hours later I got extremely pale, with cold sweats, dizziness and nausea.  I rested and managed to keep food down but now I have pain that comes and goes in the area right below my left breast where I've had the pain before.  I'm just concerned that I might have caused bleeding internally or a hernia...I am taking my medication but should I be concerned?

Hi

I am Registered Nurse my advice is seek medical attention please. Your hx of ulcer, but also your s/s are very vague and could mean anything.  Please, please see a doctor just to be safe!

I simply do not know if you have had a mild heart attack your s/s are vague and I do not want you to risk your life okay. I work cardiac telemetry acute medicine. You need a cardiac workup, EKG etc., If it is your GI you need further assessment done to check for any occult bleeding from ulcer, UGI and Lower x-ray's, possible endoscope etc.,. I am not trying to diagnose just worried about you very much.  People can have mild heart attacks and not even know it like strokes, but the next one could be the big one. Please I beg you go see your doctor.
