Adstar, were you diagnosed with malrotation? It's a condition that is present from birth and may not show up until one is older and discomfort occurs.

The GI tract normally goes through a period in which the whole tube rotates within the abdominal cavity before birth. In addition to rotation, parts of it 'migrate' from an area under the diaphragm area to locations further down. So the area of the terminal ileum and the appendix move from under the left lung/diaphragm down toward the top of the left leg.

With non-migration and non-rotation (malrotation) the intestinal tract can end up in positions that are not considered 'normal.' If this occurs, there are some forms of surgery that can be done to reposition the GI tract.
