What does Moviprep Taste Like

I am terrified about the upper GI and Colonoscopy that I have to have tomorrow. By reading the site I have heard nothing but horror stories and all I wanted to know is what the Moviprep tastes like. What can I expect from this procedure? I have had stomach issues since I was a child and it worsened after I had my son 11 years ago. They took out my gall bladder last year and they still dont know what wrong. I was diagnosed with H Pilori and the meds prescribed helped for 2 days and then worsened the condition instead of making me better. The doctor thinks it could be IBM but I think he is guessing because he is running out of options. They did find something wrong with my liver but with me not being a drinker I dont know how this could have come up in the cat scan. They also found a cyst on one of my ovaries but I found by my Gyno that this is a functional cyst. Anyway, I am even more scared...??!

I'm glad everything went well.  By the way, colon and large intestine are the same thing.  They make you put the bite guard on so that they can put the tube down into your stomach without you biting it.

Thank you for all your helpful advice. The colonoscopy and upper GI went very well. They took biopsy's of my large intestine, colon and stomach. I should have my test results soon. Speaking with you helped me to be less nervous and I was surprised at how calm I was. I had very little questions but I was a little puzzled when they made me put the bite gaurd on??. Anyway, It was quick and I slept through everything. Thanks again. CJ.

Being put to sleep is one of the easiest parts (but that doesn't mean it isn't scary).  I can't really tell you what it will be like because there are many different types of sedation and they all feel a little different, but the worse experience I've had was just some hallucination for about 10 minutes after the procedure.  It is normal to be running to the bathroom all the time.  It might last the entire time, so I would recommend setting up next to the bathroom until the procedure.

I think Im more afraid of being put to sleep than anything else.  I tried the Moviprep and low and behold I vomited everytime it hit my stomach. So they put me on Miralex and ive been taking it since 5:30pm. They pushed the procedure off to tomorrow. I cant stop running to the bathroom though. How long is that suppose to last:-(

Also, people that have long-term complications from a colonoscopy are way less than 1%, probably .00001%.  Think about it this way, everyone over 50 in the US is supposed to get a colonoscopy.  Basically all of these people are totally fine.  You might have some discomfort after the procedure though.  The most common thing that happens is that you have discomfort when you wake up from the procedure because your intestines are full of gas.  If you pass the gas and are not ashamed of it or embarrassed by it, then you will feel better.  You might feel kind of wiped out but if you drink lots of fluids and take it slow you should be fine.

In response to your question to the other post, I believe that most people do not end up vomiting from the prep.  The moviprep will probably taste salty and sweet with a lemon-lime flavor.  It won't taste good but you can do it.

I have no idea what the sedation is..I am suppose to f/u with them today to go over the procedure. And sorry for the typo. I meant IBS. I think he is wanting to give this diagnosis because they dont know what else to do for. I sincerly hope they find the issue. They are going to have me drink the solution and they want me to start at 5pm. The procedure is at 7:00am on Thurs 8-7. From the sounds of it, it appears I will be pooping all night:-(...

The thing you drink for upper gi does not taste anything like the colonoscopy prep.  Most people don't get to just take pills for their colonoscopy, they have to drink something too.

For me personally, the taste of the prep was not the worse thing.  The pain that I had from the prep was the worst but I have motility problems so it shouldn't be as bad for you.  You do have to go to the bathroom the entire time which is miserable.  Some people's stool color never becomes crystal clear and this is normal and fine and they will still be able to do the procedure.

Unless I'm missing something, IBM is not a medical problem.  He probably said IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) or IBD (inflammatory bowel disease).

I had a colonoscopy at 16 and I was totally fine and it wasn't that big of a deal and I was going through this with an intestinal motility disorder (my intestines don't like to move causing cramping) and gastroparesis (my stomach doesn't digest things so I spent a lot of my time throwing up the prep liquid).

Do you know what type of sedation you are getting for the colonoscopy?

I have had an upper gi before and the barium stuff they had me drink the lady said it would taste like a strawberry milkshake from McDonalds even had it in a McDonalds cup lol I am not kidding. But she LIED through her teeth it taste like chalky strawberry water or mylanta strawberry flavored if you will.

I have also had a colonoscopy done as well the prep for that was not bad at all except I would not leave the house all day, and if there is more than one person staying in your home I hope you have two bathrooms because you will need one most of the night once you start the prep. I took the pills it was a bunch I had to take every 15 minutes for one hour with a lot of water so there was no taste to the medicine the only thing I felt water logged and the medicine makes you poop more than you ever have in your entire life to clean you out, by the next day when you poop it's clear it's actually more like peeing out the wrong hole (sorry) but it's crystal clear then at that point there is no stool left in your body then they put you to sleep for this actual test so you know nothing about the camera being put up your bum

I was terrified I even cried on the way to the procedure room but honestly it was not that bad I slept through it all and woke up in a little recovery room where I stayed for about 15 minutes then went home
