What is a PIPIDA Scan

by swiffer, Jan 20, 2003 12:00AM
My GI doctor recommended a PIPIDA scan after months of gallbladder and abdominal pain. What is it exactly? Is it like an MRI? How long does it take? All he said was no food or drink (or medicine) after midnight and they will inject a radioactive dye that will constrict your gallbladder. Sounds ok..but does it hurt? And why can't I take my morning medicine??

must be "hida scan".
I never had it, but there were some postings here about it.
Alternatively you can try a searchengine for this keyword

It is a Pipida Scan...not a HIDA scan.  And your description is correct.  It does not hurt but involves your stomach and biliary tree so eating ANYTHING is discouraged because it could change the results of the test.

pipida is correct. It differs from hida by the type of radionucleid used. But I assume, there is no big difference.
I found it at:
