What is going on with my upper GI

I am have issues with swallowing liquids and food. I do not have pain in my throat or esophagus but when I try to swallow liquids it seems that my throat closes up and I can not swallow. When I do drink some thing I must sip it and swallow very slowly. The same thing happens with food as my throat and esophagus seems to close up and it feels that the food gets stuck in the pipe between my throat and breast bone. I few times the food and/or liquids came back up and I had to spit or vomit while I was trying to swallow it down.

I went to a GI doctor who did a endoscopy and stated I had inflammation of the gastric amtrum and duodenal bulb and the second part of of the duodenal bulb.

My Z-line is reported to be regular and was located at the gastroesohagel junction.

I have dispersed, small non-bleeding erosions in the gastric Antrum.

Scattered moderate inflammation and shallow ulcerations wad found in the duodenal bulb and in the second part of the duodenum.

They did a stomach biopsy for H.pylori, which the results were negitive.

Currently I feel full and bloated and it feels that I have to blech / bump all the time.

Has anyone had such symptoms or dignose. Currently my doctor has me taking 40mg of Prilosec every morning.

Thanks CalGal,

The biopsy came back negitve for H. My doctor put me on 40mg of Prilosec which has helped some. I have follow up appointment in a few weeks, but my doctor states it is inflamation possially due to some medications I am taking Celexa and Clonazepam, also he stated it might be stress related as I had a recent exposure to HIV, but tested negitve post 3 months,

The comment on the scattered moderate inflammation and shallow ulcerations in the duodenal bulb and 2nd portion of the duodenum has me wondering about biopsy results from that section. What was said about those tissues. When there is inflammation in that portion of the GI tract it could be a result of more than just acid flow from the stomach into the first part of the small intestine. Has the doctor followed up on it? Was anything said about things that might possibly be an issue such as celiac disease or any form of inflammatory bowel condition? Another possibility could be food intolerances, however they don't present with 'shallow ulcerations.'

Please follow up and question your doc more closely. Some of the issues you're experiencing in the lower part of the stomach (antrum) and in the throat could be related to what's going on in the duodenum. Many docs will chalk it up to acid issues, but further investigation really should be undertaken. Don't just leave it as 'acid reflux' until you've fully investigated all possibilities.

Also look into the possibility of increased levels of gastrin secretion.
