What is going on?

by DEBMOM, Nov 01, 2006 12:00AM
Brief background: I am a 36 y.o. female, 2 vaginal births, no significant med history. the only history is mono at 17, and a TIA related to L&D. no further problems.

I was admitted to the hospital on 10/4 with jaundice. I work as a nurse and was told by my colleagues that I looked really yellow. I had been feeling very, very fatigued, itchy and generally lousy. No sore throats, fevers. Intermittent nausea and vomitting. I have not been exposed to anything and no needlesticks. I took Levaquin 2 months ago for a sinus infections for 5 days. I have taken it before several times. I did have some nausea (no vomitting) a few days befoer the jaundice appeared.

In the hospital, my ASt at the highest (it went up and down a couple of time but never below 1000) was 1438. ALT the same. Total bilirubin was 14.

I had an ultrasound which was unremarkable. Dopple of the biliary ducts, normal.

I have tested negative for Hep A, B(vaccinated) and C. Negative for mono spot, CMV, ANA,Anti-mitocho and Anti-smooth M.

I was released from the hospital 10/6/06 My levels have started to drop. They are now ALT and AST 859. Bilirubin 10 one week later. They are now steady at AST/ALT 456. Bilibrubin 8.9 for the past 2 weeks.

I am scheduled for a liver bx on 11/14.

I am constantly tired. My job is very physical and I cannot go back to work. I tried one day and almost passed out halfway thru my shift. I still have periods on nausea and vomitting. MY joints ache.  I am on Reglan which isn't doing much. I still have itching. However, I am hardly yellow anymore.

Anyone have any ideas

I wish I could help you out, but I don't have any answers. BUT... I do want to mention that it is a good thing that the lft's are on the way back down!

Wish you the best.

You are suffering an adverse reaction to levaquin.  read the info and you'll see that your liver has been affected. get on www.fqvictims.org and you'll find some help there.
