What is normal liver enzyms?

by mr stetson, Jun 25, 2001 12:00AM
I like to know what are the normal range for liver enzyms and what are the highs. I had blood work recently and the results are back, I was told that I have mild elevation of liver enzyms.
I don't know how much because I will be going to the doctor on wednesday (6-27-01)to find out and I want to have an idea of the highs and normals when I go in to the doctor.Thank you

I'll give you the values I know since I don't know specifically what tests you had. the AST range is 5-40 IU/L. the ALT range is 5-35 IU/L. increased levels of these enzymes CAN indicate some type of liver injury, but I have a friend who had increased levels after getting mono. so think positive and good luck!

JANUARY OF 2000, I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH MONO. ALSO, MY LIVER ENZYMES WERE THROUGH THE ROOF. I HAD HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE. I WAS A MESS. I'VE BEEN A BINGE DRINKER FOR YEARS. I WAS 25 AT THE TIME. I QUIT DRINKING FOR 104 DAYS AND MY ENZYMES WENT DOWN TO NORMAL, I STARTED DRINKING IN MODERATION(COUPLE OF TIMES A WEEK) AND AFTER ROUTINE CHECKUPS THEY WERE SLIGHTLY ELEVATED AGAIN. MY DOCTOR TOLD ME TO QUIT AGAIN. FORGET THAT! MY ULTRASOUNDS WERE FINE. IF ANYONE CAN TELL ME WHY THE ENZYMES ARE SO IMPORTANT AT THE IMMEDIATE TIME AND NOT JUST A PRECURSOR TO LIVER DAMAGE DOWN THE ROAD, I WOULD BE GRATEFUL.
