What is wrong with my digestive system?

by mattgeiger, Dec 30, 2008 08:59PM
Ive been going to a GI doctor and Ive had a barium test, an endoscopy, and numerous blood tests. Everything came back normal. Ive tried probiotics for a month and every digestive aid you can imagine and they've all done absolutely nothing.

These are my symptoms

-my bowel movements are normal except for the fact that they don't smell whatsoever (its been like this for approx 2 months). You could go in the bathroom after Im done and you wouldn't know I was in there.

-my gas is infrequent and 100% odorless (again, been like this for approx. 2 months)

-I don't have stomach pain but If I press on my lower abdomen its a little tender

-I get indigestion after eating... it feels like the food just chills in my stomach/intestine area for way longer than it should.

-I don't have much of a decreased appetite but I never get that really hungry growling stomach feeling like I used to.

-I'm bipolar and when I take my meds I feel absolutely nothing, as if I didn't even take them. Its like my stomach can't absorb the pills and turn them into something my body can use. This is my main concern because I NEED to be on meds.

pleaseee help me =)

Well, could be your medications are giving you the indigestion, plain and simple, but you should get used to that.  As for the meds not working, some bipolar drugs are like that, you don't notice them "working" unless you go off them.  However, could be you need a different kind of medicine.  Also, might be your stomach does indeed empty slowly, and the docs can do a "stomach emptying test," which checks how long it takes food to leave the stomach.  As for the nonsmell of your waste and gas, this is common for a period of time following a colonoscopy, becuz the prep totally cleans out the digestion, so there will be less odor.  More protein improves the appetite, altho could be your indigestion keeps you from feeling hungry.

I think you should review the side effects of your medications.  If an upset stomach is on there, you can always talk with the prescribing doc about trying something different, since it seems to be bothering you quite a bit.  Also, request that test I mentioned.
