What type of cancer did your son have? My son is facing this surgery due to a cancerous tumor called Ewing's Sarcoma.
My son had a whipple on Nov. 25,2008 he did have a cancerous tumor on the head of his pancreas. It was a hard road for him but now 7 months later he is doing great. You are getting this long after the fact but I hope all is well.
my son underwent a whipple procedure in dec 2006 at the age of 8. He did not have a tumour but the prcedure was preformed as the result of a car accident. He lost the head of the pancreas, the duadenum,1/3 of his stomach, his gall bladder and part of his bowel. He also damaged his right kidney, ruptured his spleen and fractured 2 of his ribs. A catalogue of injuries i know but he has made a remarkable recovery. He returned to fulltime education after 6 months and is doing great.
We now have yearly hospital appointments and several ultasounds to check on all his organs. As the docs explained to me the procedure is rare on a young child so there is not much info for the long term, but his prognosis is good
