Why does eating some foods cause my neuropathy to flare all over body

I've had sfn since Feb. 2012, burning sensation all over my body from head to toe. My digestive system has been affected tremendously. Can eat very few foods, some protien with no seasoning, apples and little else and in very small amounts. Actually am afraid to try other foods because when I do it causes my sfn to flare up all over my body and it takes a few days to get back to my "normal" level of pain. Am seeing a neurologist and gastroenterologist, but no answer yet. Was told in Feb. by neurologist that it should go away in six months; this week he said it was too early to tell. So that's discouraging. Any ideas or thoughts as to why this happens?

There's also a link between peripheral neuropathy and pernicious anemia, which is another autoimmune.  Thyroid disorders should also be ruled out.

There is a link between peripheral neuropathy and celiac disease. You may want to consider checking out the possibility that this autoimmune problem could be the cause of what you are experiencing.

Thanks for the info. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia around 2002, was put on zoloft, did very mild exercise and it seemed to have gone away. I will look into the info you gave me. These symptoms are very different from what I recall, but they could very well be intertwined. Thanks again.

Thanks for asking. It is small fiber neuropathy. I believe that it was a result of an allergic reaction to bactrim.

Sounds like Fibromyalgia to me. There is few research into FM and diets, but some think that FM might be caused by leaky gut, or it is associated with it.
I also have a friend in the US with FM.
She told me that since I made her switch to the special carbohydrate diet a few months ago, her flares are not as often, and not as severe anymore.
If you are up to it, google it, start with the intro diet (this is important), and then try to stay on the diet for 30 days. You need to be aware that you need to tweak the diet so it suits your needs, and carefully experiment with it.
A good starting point is the onlinepage  of SCD lifestyle, they give good hints, motivational and informational podcasts and good information. No need to buy their book, the rest is all for free.
There is also scd and veggie, with great recipes and pecanbread, which is an older page, but a great source of info and they explain the link between the gut and autism.
Good luck!

Welcome to the gastroenterology community!  I'm sorry I don't know what sfn is.  Can you give me the full name of your condition?
