Why is my right side hurting nine years later?

by Alura, Jun 17, 2008 12:22AM
I have been having agrivating pain in my side every since I've had my gallbladder removed.  Sometimes I think that it
could be phantom pain.  Recently someone mentioned that I looked yellow.  I brushed it off at first.  Then I began to
connect it to the pain in my side.  I've had every test in the world that could be done and nothing was found.  I have
alot of loose stools and sometimes major constipation.  During the removal of my gallbladder , there were complications.  There were other doctors and nurses called in to assist.  I found out after the surgery that I had lost
some blood. I think it was 13 cc's of blood.  I was told that it wasn't a whole lot.  But after hearing there were complications I wonder what exactly went wrong.  Since then, these these pains that I continue to have seem abnormal.  Are they?  I thought having it removed would stop the pain not make it worse.  It feels like sometimes it is still there.  What is wrong?  I'm afraid that I have been injured during the surgery I had nearly nine years ago.

The pain could be spasms of the components of the biliary system or the sphincter (the muscular opening) to the duodenum. This unfortunately happens to a fair number of people and it should be checked out. Please check with your doc and you may want to request an non-invasive MRCP test to visualize the biliary system to see if anything is amiss.

The changes of bowel habits - alternation of loose stools and constipation - also 'fits' with the pattern of spasms.

Make sure to have your liver and pancreatic enzyme levels checked - especially after a bad bout of pain. If the doc does the blood test while you're feeling okay, everything may come back 'normal' when it actually isn't.

Hi ,

I have the same situation , and yu had replied to me also .
My Enzymes are alright .Still there is pain .Same Alternate Loose motions/constipations .
The Gut seems to be out of control .Is Questran the soln ?
Yu suggested Inape with Calcium .
Before testing for SOD ,should one try to fix Gut and then try SOD .

When i read the sites ,there's a whole lot of people suffering from this .

one small observation , don't keep empty stomach for long ,as bile dropping into intestine is like a Detergent flowing into Gut .Because of Pain people are scared to eat
and it makes matters worse .
Come what may eating low fat meal at regular intervals is also one imp point .

Me too, I had my gallbladder taken out last year of June 2007. A month after my surgery I was totally back to normal. However, First week of August, same year, I felt pain on my right side. had CATScan and everyhting is normal. They have discovered one thing about me is, my left ureter is big. Another test was done, and urologist told me that I belong to the one of the few who has "MEGA" ureter. so they told me that nothing is wrong with me.

I dont wnat to go back to the Dr anymore since they do alot of test and wont be able to find it...plus paying hospital bills with all the scan is horrible!

Anyone who has same case?

(I am just keeping by faith that the Lord will take this pain away!)
