Wife's multiple symptoms

by BroNo, Sep 25, 2001 12:00AM

My wife has been diagnosed by the Mayo Clinic with fatty liver. We had traveled over a thousand miles to go to a Mayo Clinic after local hospitals tried for two years for a diagnosis and came up with nothing. This was diagnosed by the use of a CT scan. She is an RN herself and works with critically ill patients. They opted not to do a liver biopsy and said that the CT scan is highly accurate.
New symtoms however are surfacing. Sometimes severe nausea about 6 hours after a big meal. Chronic diarrea (diarrhea) with some black stool that showed up recently though not since. Severe intermittant lower back pain that seems to have no association with any injuries or heavy lifting. Then last night she had a nose bleed for no apparent reason. During her period she seems to get anemic looking and a slight yellow tinge to her complection especially under bright floresent lighting.
Whe was recently given blood work which seemed to indicate no abnormalities. She was given a stool sample kit but is waiting for the unusual stool to happen again that she says looks to her like it has bile in it as she has seen in pancreatic patience. Her Dr is not treating this as anything really to worry about. She has a strong family history of cancer and her Mother and Sister both died of cancer. We are just concerned and wanting to know if we should be doing more medically. She is tired of going for more tests and having them show basically nothing. Thanks  Concerned Husband

I"m with her in thinking pancreatic symptoms...they cause back pain and a mutiple of other symptoms. I assume they have done a scan of her liver as well??? Any history of fibroid tumors? I don't like the way you say she gets a "yellowish tinge" does this happen in her eyes as well? And have any blood work been done in regards to her liver and function? you could do a search on chronic pancreatitis and see what that turns up.
Unfortunately today I find you almost have to dx yourself...it's awful and I know all about that. It took me almost a year and a half to get properly dx.
If you need information on fatty liver I can send you some...just leave your e-mail addy in with your next message or feel free to e-mail me at ***@****
Take care and hang in there!!!
