When I called the called the doc and asked about the blood tests, she said many things were covered, including Liver function/gall bladder stuff.
So, sigh of relief...I think. She did say if anything gets worse or new symptoms arise I would have tocal go back in.
This leaves it back to prolly being an ulcer.
Now, I was on Zantac for about half a month. Been on Protonix for a little over a month now.
Shouldn't my symptoms be greatly improving?? Granted, I don't have acid attacks as bad as before/can sleep better..But I still get naueasated, weird gagging stuff goong on with my throat
. Anbd last night I woke up and my stomach was hurting unbelievably bad!!! Even water was not helping! Eventually, I took two DGL Licorice wafers and the pain slowly went away. Do not know if coincidence or not.
I just wanna know/anyone else who has had ulcers...even when you are on medicine this long can you still have pain attacks/burning attacks????
I am totally by myself all weekend..don't really know anyone here. I am so scared it is not even funny!
I would think it's a little early to assume ulcer unless you've had bleeding.
I've been on all kinds of H2 blockers and PPI's (from Prevacid to Zantac to Nexium and back again) and a lot of them just didn't work at all. Some of them worked a little. None of them eliminated the problem. You'll just have to find what's best for you. They also have side effects which could be causing some of what you're experiencing (nausea especially). So you may have to find another drug.
A lot of people swear by that Licorice stuff. If it helps you, keep on taking it.
But try not to be so worried. I know you're uncomfortable, but the worry will only make it worse, believe me.
When I said it sounded a little too early to worry about an ulcer, I hope that didn't make it sound like I was passing judgment or whatever. I mean, who knows? I sure don't. Nobody on here does. You have to be examined.
Do you drink coffee? Alcohol? Spicy foods? Do these thing cause your symptoms?
Your stools may look tarry or even like coffee grounds, and this will indicate bleeding further up into your digestive tract. There are so many symptoms that mimic many different things. The only way you can know for sure is to have your doctor set up the tests that will eliminate each possibility. Do not try and self diagnose yourself, or let any one in here do this without being a physician who has checked you out completely. Something that looks like an ulcer could be gastritis or many other things, and there is the dreaded cancer scare. Please do not let it go, get to the doctors office and get tests scheduled. Good luck, hope you feel better soon.
