Yeast infection to iamarmy all

by PAJ, Nov 24, 2002 12:00AM
Yeast infections are certainly not confined to people with AIDS or on chemotherapy. Dr Crook gives an estimate of 80 million infected in the USA alone .

The main rout of infection is through taking antibiotics that deplete the natural bacterial gut flora allowing candida that is also part of our natural flora to proliferate to the point of being pathogenic [harm causing] .This is how I came to be infected. My many and seemingly unrelated symptoms were explained by a paper written by  Dr Cranton .
The following is part of my web site I’m putting together , Also take a look at this candida  site it’s the most visited health site on the internet Hope this helps. http://www.healthyawareness.com/_pages/forums.htm
I’ll set out my site first with my personal story, Followed by information I have found relevant or useful, I start with the dramatic account of antibiotics and candida overgrowth in 1984.
Although that signalled another escalation of the infection its now clear I have lived with a yeast infection most of my life, with throughout childhood semi permanent sinus infections, athletes foot, sensitive to heat /cold lack of stamina etc; I think as a result of antibiotics that almost certainly would have been prescribed for an cyst I eventually had surgically removed at the tender age of three.
[After lengthy self-treatment seventeen months in total since May 2001. my yeast population seems to be under control I no longer suffer from fatigue and other well known symptoms..

To: yeast continued
.. Although I am still symptomatic of a condition called Extension oculomycosis a serious fungal eye infection peculiar to diabetics.]

I also believe that my yeast infection triggered the auto immune response that caused my diabetic condition and in fact could be the cause of the Diabetes epidemic we are experiencing at the present time.
The majority of people who have Candida do not realise they have it until become seriously ill. The symptoms are so numerous and seemingly unrelated that is very perplexing to all concerned.
Candida Albicans in an incredible destroyer of health and is one of a number of pathogens that can infect without triggering the immune response they are aptly named “Stealth” infections and is believed to be the main missing link in many of our modern day diseases and sub health conditions. The fact that Candida can rob the body of its nutrition and poison the tissues with it toxins is a major contribution, directly or indirectly to many serious conditions.

. I first experienced candida overgrowth in the gut in 1984 following at least twelve months drug therapy with massive doses of antibiotics to treat abscesses, caused by undiagnosed diabetes.
Dramatic symptoms as documented in Dr Cranton site developed with so called irritable bowel eventually to the point of surgery [Haemorrhoids] terrible lethargy, brain fog, an unexplained liver ache that I had several scans for including a Hida scan. Other symptoms developed [1993] a raised sore on the upper left side of my nose septum, Tinnitus in my left ear and a very unpleasant eye infection [left] and massive headaches radiating from the left side of my head .
The doctors I had consulted had no diagnosis for my deteriorating health other than irritable bowel.
In Dec 1999 I purchased a computer to research my illness in just a few hours I found this site http://drcranton.com/CFIDS.htm#CFIDS%20Paper it turned out to be my personal “Rosetta Stone” it detailed most of the symptoms that had puzzled both myself the patient and my doctors.
Eventually I found my present doctor who thankfully stepped out of the box and treated me, I say thankfully because it’s clear that most doctors will not treat if the condition is not “in the book “ or perhaps more accurately doctors opt to either treat with dose’s of drug that’s designed to keep them safe rather than effectively treat the infection or more likely in our case to deny the existence of yeast infections and to not to treat at all.
This growing trend of practicing “Defensive “Politically Correct medicine is becoming more prevalent

To continue; My initial medication was diflucan 200 mg per day upping the dose to 400mg early on in the therapy, adding later Amphotericin at 400mg per day
. The result of the medication was nothing less than spectacular, I figure 70% of my symptoms was relieved within three weeks. Fatigue lifted, my mental processes improved etc;
. Further reading brought me to Lamisil [Terbinafine]
I read that the drug is considered relatively safe and had very positive reports from other sufferers, I spoke to my doctor and he agreed to try it.
The initial dose was 500mg per day using the control of the headaches as the criteria for the dose, I found that I had much more reaction with 500mg of Lamisil than 400mg of Diflucan, notably chronic hay fever type sneezing complete with red nose, but still not enough to control the headaches. I upped the dose to 1000mg per day. [my decision my doc didn’t know]  This and this only put out the fire of the infection . By this time I was two months into the therapy and taking regular liver function tests, all ok

I agree with you, about how hidden yeast infections (Candida albicans, etc.) can greatly harm the immune system.

In my own case, I used to get yeast infections every time I used to take antibiotics. Now, I avoid antibiotics, unless it's a major emergency.

For me, taking PRO-BIOTICS (such as ACIDOPHILUS & BIFIDUS)--beneficial bacteria-- has been the way to conquer yeast infections.

Another thing I learned was that I had to give up using Tampax, because it incubated the yeast, and I could never get rid of the yeast fully, until I gave up using tampons.

Also, eating too many sweets resulted in feeding the yeasts, so watching the sweet tooth also helped.

Good luck with your new website! :-)

Sincerely, Concerned lady

I have lots of questions.  Could I email you?  I don't even know where to begin to get tested or to find out if this could be some of my problem.

I haven't heard of a yeast infection triggering an autoimmune response. Does anyone know of anything ELSE that could trigger an autoimmune response? My ASMA was positive on my liver test, and I was diagnosed with "autoimmune hepatitis" (even tho the other numbers were only slightly elevated. This is all so mysterious.
