Sounds like you know about fistual surgery, maybe you can help me with info.  My boyfriend had resection, went bad, ER colostomy, reversal, and now fistulas developiing (3) , doctors do not seem to do anything at all,  saying surgery is too dangerous.  He's in a lot of pain, says he gets a balloon like feeling in area when it seems they start to heal, very uncomfortable, so sometimes makes sure they reopen. He's very depressed and I cannot ask him to ask his drs, but what is the danger involved in fistula surgery?  If he doesn't have it, does it mean they will never heal and he will have to live with the pain?  This has been ongoing since first surgery for 3 years, so any info appreciated.

I had emergency surgery 3 months ago for a bowel obstruction caused by excessive scar tissue and 5 layers of mesh.  ! week later my abdomen burst open and all my dinner came out. Another emergency surgery. It has been over 3 months now and I just came home 2 days ago with my TPN.  and my wound can't close because af a the mesh.  Can't find a surgeon to look at me for al least 6 months.  I have already gone without food and water 2 1/2 months is it so dangerous a surgery or that dangerous to eat and drink yet?

My advice is to get back to the doc as of yesterday!
My mother did not make her doc see her and settled for an appt for the next week. She didnt make it that long, she ended up in the ER and immediate surgery, and before she was to come home the fisticula was back and had another surgery. She waited too long and there was so much damage that if it should happen again she is in trouble. Her colostomy is as far up as it can go.......she spent over a month in the hospital......so I stress do not wait!!

Call your doc and get back in to see him/her now. Do you have any history of any form of inflammatory bowel problems?

Your doc is going to be the only one who'll be able to tell you what the next step is going to have to be. Call.
