My 20 year old daughter has been awakened at 3:30 - 4:00 am for three mornings in a row with severe abdominal pains. The first morning the pain started around 3:30 and at 5:30 she vomited, and we thought it was the flu. By noon she felt better, but somewhat tired and stayed in bed all day. She was able to eat dinner and felt fine that evening. The second morning the pain started at at 4:00 am and by 7:30 she was dry-heaving, but by noon she felt well enough to go to work. Other that feeling tired and drained she was fine the rest of the day and that evening and ate dinner just fine. This morning she was again wakened at 4:00 am with even more severe pain. She dealt with it until 9:00 am at which time I took her to the emergency room. The doctor examined her, did a urinalysis, and x-rayed her stomach and found nothing. His diagnosis was Acid Reflux. I objected because she did not have any of the classic symptoms and each morning had been in so much pain that she was doubled over, crying, and could barely move. He insisted that acid reflux could cause this kind of pain. He has prescribed Pepcid, Prilosec, and Mylanta. She is no longer in excruciating pain, but feels bad and is just lying down trying to sleep. He said that if the pain starts again in the morning to take a swig of Mylanta and the pain will subside - and she is going to try that - However, I am afraid that something much more serious may be going on here. Any ideas or input would be appreciated.
