abdominal pain

Hi,
I've been having abdominal pains for several weeks now. The pain is more towards my upper abdomin than lower, kind of below my sternum. I can feel the pain deep, right through to my back. They seem to intesify at night. I have also noticed a white stringy material in my stool, it almost looks like mucus. I was thinking it could possibly be an ulcer but having food doesn't seem to have any effect on the pain, nor does acid reducers so I don't see how it could be that but I don't even know if there is a way to test if you have an ulcer. Does anyone have any ideas?

well I'm no doctor, but I do have acid reflux really bad and get heart burn frequently and to me it sounds like heart burn. Have you tried taking Zantac?
