abdominal pain

by musk, Mar 27, 2009 11:09AM
I have been having pain in my upper right abdomen.  It is accompanied by an occasional strong pulse sensation in the same area.  It is not constant.  It mostly bothers me when I am driving - I am in the car for about 4 hours a day for my job.  I had these same symptoms a few months back and then they went away but have recently come back.  Any thoughts on what this might be?

Upper right quadrant pain can be caused by the liver or gallbladder.

Normally, blood tests to evaluate the liver enzymes as well as an abdominal ultrasound or CT scan would be considered.

If negative, upper GI conditions can also lead to pain here.  If the imaging tests are negative, you can consider an upper endoscopy to exclude these causes.

These options can be discussed with your personal physician.
