Many people can't continue to eat anything they want if they want to tamp down their acid problems. The PPIs are able to lower the production of acid, but if you're constantly stimulating that production due to the foods you're eating you may be defeating the purpose of the meds.
In one way of thinking, PPIs are simply a band-aid, and unless you give the meds a hand by changing your diet and making lifestyle changes, you may not be able to find relief from this condition. Changing meds might help temporarily, or going to higher doses or more potent (Reglan) meds might help, but the meds aren't going to get to the root of the problem, unfortunately.
