I was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia and been on Aciphex for almost 2 years now , I did fine eating whatever I wnated till recently when I had some burning again . I did experience anxiety symptoms from the aciphex and went away. Did the endoscopy well was fine besides the small hiatus and going for the second one The doct prescribed twice a day aciphex and expreinece reflux back in my throat never had it before and some breathing problems I try to get another GI and check out the options I will be taking aciphex once a day and quit I hope someday b/c of the side effects . The told me to take reglan and read al of the info about it and didn't decide if I should take . It seems the burning is still there for few days and will find out soon about the cause . Good luck

Many people can't continue to eat anything they want if they want to tamp down their acid problems. The PPIs are able to lower the production of acid, but if you're constantly stimulating that production due to the foods you're eating you may be defeating the purpose of the meds.

In one way of thinking, PPIs are simply a band-aid, and unless you give the meds a hand by changing your diet and making lifestyle changes, you may not be able to find relief from this condition. Changing meds might help temporarily, or going to higher doses or more potent (Reglan) meds might help, but the meds aren't going to get to the root of the problem, unfortunately.
