alternatives to surgery

I have had 4 painful attacks, twice admitted for them, over the course of 8 yrs.
Surgery has been mentioned to me, but it's my last resort. Antibiotics do help me, but ther's always a fear of another attack. My question is, am I at risk for developing colon cancer if I don't have the surgery? What does these attacks do to my bowel? I'm bloated all the time.
