amount of gallstones

what is the average amount of gallstones in galbladder when it is removed?
  is 400 stones a lot?
________
Dear helga,
400 gallstones is definitely a lot. Presumably most of the stones are small,  There is no definite size requirement to be called a stone.  Most physicians seeing multiple small cholesterol precipitates ( the main constituent of most stones) will use the terms pebbles or sludge.
