anal discharge

by mdh, Oct 22, 2001 12:00AM
If anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it....about a year ago I started having problems w/constant dampness in the rectal region.  Very gradual onset and was mostly an annoyance only.  I started using baby wipes to clean the area and cotton balls to cope w/dampness.  Approx 3 months ago, I noticed the cotton balls often had a yellow color and sometimes fecal matter (even though I'm very careful to clean thoroughly).  Also, I started noticing a very strong fecal odor when I sat for prolonged periods or during exercise.  It's mortifying and has really affected my social life.  It's as though I'm passing very smelly gas - buy I'm not!  Within the past month I have begun experiencing pain, heat (I assume swelling) if I sit for more than 10 minutes at a time.  I went to see a GI, did a flex sig and said I had large internal hemorrhoids (having them banded today).  She really dismissed my other symptoms (pus and smell).  Are these symptoms common w/piles?  Any feedback would be appreciated, I'm feeling very depressed about this whole situation.
Thanks,
mdh

Don't worry, if you're getting the hemmoroids (hemorrhoids) removed, your symptoms should disappear.  Your symptoms are pretty common with hemmorhoids, especially if yours are large.  The dampness is very common.  I'm sure that the smell is just from the dampness, and that should go away too.  I have that gross discharge, i know for sure thats from the roids.  It'll be gone soon!! :-)
hope i've made ya feel a little better!

Ahhh!  Now I'm very frustrated.  Went to have my 'very large' internal hemorrhoids removed today, only to be told by the colorectal specialist that my hemorrhoids are NOT very large and should not be removed...also said my symptoms are not caused by hemorroids (hemorrhoids) - but after examining me, cannot find a cause (said he expected to find a fistula).  So now I'm stuck with the hemorrhoids AND the discharge, and still am clueless as to a cause.  If anyone has any insight (or same experience), please let me know. thanks,
mdh

Hmm, i'm kind of suprised that your doc told you that hemmorhoids can't cause those symptoms.  My gastro doc assured me that those are pretty typical symptoms of hemmorhoids, the only one that doesn't sound familiar is the smell, but that could be just from the dampness.  Strange...

Thank goodness!  I knew I couldn't be the ONLY one in the universe!  My problem is just the dampness.  I have liquid to gel-like mucus that is clear as can be daily, as much as a couple of tablespoons worth at a time escape - horribly distressing.  Have been through colonoscopy, stool tests, etc.  I think it must be internal hemorrhoids or internal prolapse of the rectum (But WHY hasn't my GI specialist doctor mentioned those things as what's wrong?!) Keeps pursuing irritable bowel, colitis, diarrhea.  I am more constipated mostly but the clear liquid/mucus just keeps right on flowing   AAAAAGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!
I guess I'm not much help, but you're not alone...
