Can any of the antibiotics used in dentistry to prevent the germs which can get into the blood stream from dental work and attack the site of a metal implant on my leg cause the ulcerative proctitus I have? If so what are the long term prospects? I was 53 when I developed it. I'm 63 now and my doctor said after my last colonoscopy, November 2004, said it looked great and se ya in six months.

The point of most of the prophylactic medications is to prevent bacteria from entering the bloodstream. In most cases, this can include Amoxicillin, Clindamycin or Azithromycin. Nothing is guaranteed however, and there is certainly a possibility that the bacteria may be resistant to the antibiotics.
