Did the doctor say that you might possibly have a partially enclosed esophagus? That's what I have. Sometimes, I can get air trapped between food going down and it's excruciating. TI can't swallow the food and the only way to get it out is to throw up. I get mucus in my throat and nauseated. The only relief is to throw up. Ask your doctor if you had a ringed esophagus. My gastro doc streched mine open. Have you been to more than one doctor? I'd get another opinion if I were you. sorry this isn't more informative. I hope you feel better soon.
The partially enclosed esophagus can be stretched during an endoscopy. After having it done, I no longer had problems with swallowing and trapped air. That was three years ago, and I have the problem again, so I guess it's not a permanent fix. Bending backward may stretch things inside, but I don't have clue how eating sweets could help.
Anyway, hope you find out what's causing your problems. Seek a second opinion if you can, a gastroenterologist. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon!
