Since it hurts when you go, and you're seeing blood, it usually means you have ordinary hemorrhoids, which come and go, depending on constipation issues.  To avoid constipation in the future, drink plenty of water, exercise regularly, and get enough fiber foods (like store-brand 100 percent whole wheat brand, fresh blueberries as a snack, whole grain cereal like Cheerios with Acidophilus milk and a small glass of juice).  Sometimes medications can constipate a person, so have the prescribing doc review side effects and adjust them for you, like if it has "dry mouth" as a side effect, that will dry you out, and your waste will get dry too, so it becomes hard and is difficult and painful to pass.

Hemorrhoids are thin swollen blood vessel tissue, usually they pop out and form by straining, and when hard waste goes past them, it makes them hurt and bleed.  So, the object of the game is to get your waste softer and help it pass more smoothly, which should happen if you'll do those three things I said.  While you are correcting your eating habits, you can put plain KY jelly back there after you bathe, to prevent it from hurting so much.

One good thing is, this event just happened to you, and you felt that urge to go and it came out, so that means you aren't too badly constipated.  Sometimes just eating fast food meals or eating out will cause this to happen, becuz of the high salt and fat content, which can also cause occasional constipation.
