I have a liver lesion that was diagnosed about 3 years ago which is suspected to be from use of birth controlControl Control rx pills. I stopped them immediately and had a follow up CT scan in 6 months. The lesion had not grown but had not really shrunk either. I was referred to a liver surgeon (Dr. Espar in Chicago) and I was given the option of surgical resectionEye muscle repair Large bowel resection Large bowel resection - series Prostate removal Small bowel resection Small bowel resection - series. I declined and decided to monitor the lesion through routineRoutine sputum culture MRIs (CT scans were ruled out due to high doses of radiationCystitis - noninfectious Radiation therapy). The lesion eventually became undetectable and it was advised that I still have yearly follow up because the abnormal cells will always be there and even though it is not detectable by scan the abnormiality is still there. I had a baby 11 months ago and breastfed for 10 months. Given the large hormone fluctuations that are unavoidable in pregnancy I am concerned that the lesion may have grown again. My PCP will not order an MRI because he says it is not indicated. I have been told otherwise by specialists that it still needs to be monitored. Is this true? Am I still at risk of having issues with this? Should I be more persistant with my PCP and get a referral to a GI office?
