bleeding off and on for four months

I have been bleeding after bowel movements off and on for four months, I had a colonosopy done 3 years ago for bleeding but not as bad, they said it was internal hemroids and to increase fibre and water. The bleeding went away and came back about four months ago, I had a digital exam and dr didnt feel any hemroids, but gave me hydrocotisone supp. I used them off and on and they did help for a while, but bleeding came back, it seems worse when i strain from a bowel movement, I have occasional constipation and wont go for several days. I am terrified of having another colonoscopy because i had so much pain during the procedure. do you think this could be cancer or just hemroids, is it possable for hemroids to bleed off and on for four months, even after change in diet and more intake of water. Is it possable to have hemroids and the doctor not feel them. My father is 79 and was diagnosed with colon cancer this past year so I am very worried. I am a 42 year old female.

I had a sigmaflex done on tue. he found a hemmroid  higher up and banded it. I had very minimal pain but am having some bleeding when trying to go to the bathroom, have been constipated since after the prep for the test. He said the bleeding should subside. Still unsure if I should of just had the colonoscopy, my mind is still not at ease. Am hopeing and praying the bleeding will just stop after the Hemmroid heals up.

You're only 8 years away from needing a colonoscopy anyway so I would want to have one now if just for peace of mind.  Have this done by a different GI doctor because you should have no pain with a colonoscopy.  Explain to the new doctor what your last experience was like and he will make sure it doesn't happen again. If there is anything going on you will be nipping it in the bud and that's what we want to do.  Try not to worry, it sounds like you may need a stool softener, and Miralax is a good one to try until you see the GI doc.  I hope this helps and wish you all the best.

You need to have the source of the bleeding identified to set your mind at ease. You mentioned a previous colonoscopy - I'm so sorry it was so unpleasant! Over 40, with a 1st degree relative w/CC and your symptoms, it doesn't seem unreasonable to investigate more thoroughly.

Be sure to request sedation as mentioned above!

Welcome to the gastroenterology community!  It it likely that the problem that you are having now is the same thing that was happening before.  I would recommend dealing with the constipation and see if that helps the bleeding.  If you do end up needing a colonoscopy, you can make sure that they better sedate you or use general anesthesia so you don't feel any pain.
