blood in stool

had blood in stool for psat 5 days, went to doctor 4 days ago and the doctor said it was most likely a bacterial or viral infection and just to watch it,  I was just wondering when to start to worry if it does not go away, i am going back to teh doctor again next week

I guess it largely depends on the type of blood you have seen in your stool. Whether it is of a dark charcol like color. A deep blood like color or if it could be possible that it is a minor blood, which would appear like a watered down blood which is common if you have an overly large stool that creates a tear in the anus. If it is the later then it is understandable that this would be why the doctor has told you to wait. However if it isnt, and is closer to the other two i would wait a full week and then see if the symptoms have lessened. If they havnt go back to the Doctor but probably try a different dr as ones who tend to shrug off something like blood in the stool are not the best. you need someone who will take what you are saying seriously. If at the end of atleast 10 days and it hasnt cleared go directly to a Gastroenterologist. Hope this helps.
