In my opinion you should ask for a colonoscopy. Blood in the stools is never normalNormal saline flush. It can be caused my "minor" abnormalities but there are also more serious causes (but less likely) such as diverticular bleeding, IBS, colonic cancer etc etc.
I suffered torrential diverticular bleeding about four years ago. The volume of blood lost was life threatening and I required a total colectomyLarge bowel resection. I am not suggesting that your symptoms are so drastic but a colonoscopy is a very comprehensive test which, if "negative" will put your mind substantially at rest.
