bloody stool

bloody stool

I have had bloody stool for about a year now and in the past two weeks it has gotten worse. When it first started happening it hurt beyond belief to use the restroom, like physically hurt to were I would avoid it until I couldn't anymore. Not only did it hurt but when I wiped there was always blood on the tissue paper. Well after about a few months it quit hurting to use the restroom and there was only blood every now and again. but since about two weeks ago there has been a lot of blood in my stool and even more when i wipe. Sometimes it is only on the tissue paper but most of the time its on both. I have not been to the doctor yet but I have an appointment set; I would just like to have an idea of what might be wrong.

Type in rectal bleeding to google and click on to one of the many sites - the Medicinenet site is particularly informative.  By doing this you should be better informed when you meet with your doctor - on which please do not "default" since rectal bleeding is never normal.  If your doctor is not absolutely certain that the cause is minor - e.g. anal fissure, haemorrhoids etc, then I suggest that you request a colonscopy.
