Can this disease be serious? I have had bloodyBloody or tarry stools stools off and on for about a year and a half.Today it happened again with more blood than the other times. I am 52 and femaleCondoms Female condoms Female sexual dysfunction.I have not been diagnosed with these disease but it has crossed my mind if it is what my body has.
I don't mean to make you anxious but you are in the age range where the more sinister causes of rectal bleeding do occur.
From your posting, it is not clear whether you already have as diagnosis or whether you have a suspicion.
One of my Wife's uncles delayed consulting a doctor even though he had clear symptoms of a G.I. abnormality/bleeding. Sadly he died of colon cancer - the doctors said "if only you had come to see us sooner". Don't let this happen to you.
I sincerely hope that the cause of your bleeding is minor - but don't mess about just in case...
Hi - rectal bleeding is never normal and should always be investigated. Please visit your doctor quickly and, if the diagnosis is vague (..."...well I think it might be....") then ask for a colonoscopy unless your doctor positively assures you that the cause is minor - e.g. haemorrhoids, anal fissure etc.
