c diff relapse

c diff relapse

HI there,
I have had c diff for 6, going on 7 weeks now.  I first took flagyl and relapsed within 2-3 days really bad.  Then I took a 14 day of vanco 125mg 4 times a day.  I went off it and had formed stool for about 7 days but my tummy always gurgled.  Then these past 5 days frequency picked up of BM, softer and then lots of mucus.  Then the past two days I had pretty much just mucus or watery stuff, with a little pink (blood?) in the mucus.  Is this a relapse?  I have no fever but fell really tired and unable to eat much.

If your doc didn't suggest it, you may want to ask to be retested for C. diff. In some people the antibiotics don't immedicately get rid of the bacterium and you may need to be checked and treated. And if you're not working with an infectious disease doc, you may want to consider doing so. Many docs aren't 'up' on the latest way to treat this very problematic critter. You could also check with the cdiffsupport.org board. They have a lot of good information and people who have dealt with the issue.
