c-difficile and abdominal cramps

I have a diagnosis of c-difficile and was prescribed 250mg of metronidazole, 3x daily for 10days. It didn't remove the infection and six days earlier that dosage was doubled. I have horrible lower abdominal cramps. Is it the medication or the infection?
