can anyone answer this mystery for me ?

hello and hope everyone is doing well.

can anyone answer this mystery for me ?

i am currntly on protonix for mild esophagitis and erosive gastritis for the past 3 months.
dr said in few days i will begin weaning off it. anyohow lately i've noticed that
if i have 2-3 glasses of water at night say 10.30-11 pm i ALWAYS wake up at night with a feeling
of regurgitation in my throat whereas it's not painful at all . i don't know what to think.

i have 3 meals a day i am very very careful with my food and last meal is at 5.30 pm.
i have nothing else till about 9.30 am the next day. it's working great except
when i drink water late. why ? any thoughts? if it is acid reflux why does it come about only
if i have water late at night ?

any thoughts will be appreciated .

tks ever so much. i thought i was safe drinking water!!! today i had heartburn and now i understand it is because last night drinking water caused acid reflux.

i am so scared of getting cancer of the esophagus and it bugs me that i am doing everything i can and still i get this.

Hi.  Acid reflux can happen at any time, especially after meals and at night.  Anything going into your stomach signals acid is needed for digestion, and with water, it doesn't have much to work on. It's just like eating right before going to bed.  Sleeping with your bed elevated helps, the lower your head, the more chance you have of getting the acid refux.  You don't have to go as long as you do without eating, just don't eat for at least two hours before going to bed.  Hope this helps and take care.
