cannot eat proteins, grains, etc.

After eating at a restaurant 16 months ago, I ended up in the ER in the night with ear ringing, stomach pains, chills, severe nausea,- so many symptoms, it was like 911 went off in my body. Since that day, I cannot eat any meat, wheat, flour rice, oats, grains, potatoes, etc. I can only eat vegetables (not all- i.e., no corn, avocado) tofu, and nuts. I have been to numerous doctors, allergists, alternative doctors, etc. After multiple blood tests, CAT scans, etc. everything keeps coming back normal. They tested for parasites, c. difficle- I have 37 pages of lab tests. If I even try a teaspoon size of any trigger foods, I am in the ER again with severe symptoms. No one seems to know what caused it, what a diagnosis is, nor have I been offered any treatment other than supplements. The symptoms are delayed, not immediate, so it is hard to figure out what I am eating that could cause this. I don't get the symptoms until the middle of the night or the next day.(I have had dairy intolerance for many years, so haven't had dairy for about 30 years)(no medications unless symptomatic, then Compazine.)
Now I am getting worse.  Now no matter what I eat, I get stomach gurgling that can last for 2 - 8 hours, followed that day or the next with episodes of diarrhea.  Can anyone help?  I want to eat normal again, but not sure anymore if that is possible.  Now I just want to get through a day without gurgling or diarrhea.  Is it possible it is a cancer that cannot be found?

You have clearly had a comprehensive evaluation with a variety of lab tests and imaging studies.

Here are some specialized tests that you may want to consider.  This would include a gastric emptying scan to rule out gastroparesis or a 24-hr pH study to evaluate for GERD.

The stool should be tested for malabsorption, and blood tests be done for celiac disease.

You can be referred to an allergist to evaluate for food allergies.

I would assume that an upper and lower endoscopy have been done - if not, these options need to be considered.

These considerations can be discussed with your personal physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.

To: Same thing I'm going through
I have the exact same symptoms. they began 2 months after an emergency appendectomy. Lost 20 lbs in the last 10 weeks.  I was tested for carcinoid cancer - something you should get checked for - and was negative.

FInally had a HIDA scan and it was discovered that my Gall bladder was operating at a 10% ejection rate. I guess I'm getting it out, even though I don;t have the usual gall bladder symptoms.

In the mean time, for your symptoms, try taking pancreatic enzymes - you can buy them at the health food store for less than $20.00 - a pill right before you eat, and see if that does anything. It helped me alot.

Let me know how things go.

Sorry, I forgot to mention. I've also been taking enteric coated peppermint oil pills, and they are working, too. I thought I may have small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), and thisand it did make me feel better.

I can eat meat with usually no problems. Who would have thought it was my gall bladder?

Hope my little posts help
