chest pressure to abdomen

My boyfriend is experiencing a discomfort when he takes a deep breath. It feels like pressure in his upper chest and it shoots down into his abdomen. Any idea what it could be?

Welcome to the gastroenterology community! I would recommend that he see his primary care physician about this. Is he having any GI symptoms?
