cholangiocarcinoma / bile duct cancer - percutaneous drainage

My father has cholangiocarcinoma.  He has exhausted most of his treatment options and is not eligible for a transplant.  He may have a year left.  He has been having consistent problems with recurrent infections; his bile is now backing up into his stomach, etc, and he is using rubber stents (the metal ones did not work).

We're concerned that he might build up resistance to his antibiotics.  One of his dr's has recommended percutaneous drainage.  He does not want to do this because he thinks it's a dangerous procedure with nasty and unpleasant consequences.  He is still going in to work and going fishing, but these infections and stent changes keep dragging him down.

Does anyone have experience with this procedure?

Thank you!
