choledocal cyst

by withstandingspirit, Oct 15, 2009 12:08AM
I  am 36 years old now with 2 kids. When I was 19, I was diagnosed to have a choledocal cyst. I underwent surgical operation for possible removal of the cyst which the doctor said the definitive treatment.  The doctor failed to removed the cyst due to its size since it's a congenital defect that have grown already. It was not detected during my younger years. The doctor said he just made some incision and reconstruction to have a normal flow on my biliary duct. After all, the cyst is still present.

4 yrs. later, I asked opinion from another surgeon if it's possible to have a second time surgery for complete removal of the cyst since I was experiencing severe infection on the affected part which the doctor said might  due to food reflux. I was dismayed when he said that another operation might risk my life and that what the 1st surgeon did was the best for me.

My family is very much affected with my situation especially when I got pregnant with my youngest son. During the 1st trimester, I got sick with severe infection due to the recurrence of the said anomaly. When I gave birth, my baby was rushed to the neonatal intensive care unit because of complications(congenital pneumonia) linked to my sickness when he was still in my womb.
I would like to ask opinion from other expert surgeons what would be the best thing to do  with my case. Do I have to wait 'til I reach the age of 50 when I'll be at the high risk in developing the cyst into bile duct cancer? or are there modern ways in getting rid of the cyst which has been with me since birth.

Thanks and God bless us all.
