ciprofloxacin problems. help

I went to the emergency room for diarrhea and vomitting and they gave me ciprofloxacin for an antibiotic. I had never taken it before and after the first dose i felt a little nauseated but they said that may happen. After the second dose i was perfectly fine. After the third dose, i felt a little sick as well but it went away soon. When i took the fourth dose, i began to convulse severely. My heart began to beat rapidly (and still is almost 24 hours later). I got faint and almost passed out and i was up almost the entire night because i cant sleep or calm down. Since i am home from college for the break, i am at my parents house and they were here to call the hospital. they told me the convulsions and heart palpitations were perfectly normal and to continue taking the medicine as directed and hung up. We called again for another answer and they told us to take some benedryl and sleep it off. I of course, went with the advice of my normal doctor and stopped taking it immediately. My question is, how long will it take for this to get out of my system? If it were one dose i am sure it would be gone almost 24 hours later, but i had four doses (one dose every twelve hours). I am just worried about how long this will last. The only thing that remains is the faintness and the weird/rapid heart beat.
