cirrhosis from hepatitis c

I have been a nurse for 25 years. I had a blood transfusion with childbirth 27 years ago. I have had HCV for quite some time now. I have tried combo therapy twice. But, the virus is still quite active. I really feel good most of the time except for tiredness and occasional pain with nausea. I am a full time research nurse for an SMO. My last biopsy showed cirrhosis.

My question is how and when do I get on the liver transplant list? I know it takes a long time to find a donor liver. No hospital in my state even does transplants. I am in what I consider to be good health now and live a very healthy lifestyle. I dont want to wait until I'm in poor health to get on the "list".

You can get online and see what is the closes hospital to you. But they don't put everyone that may need a T P on a list to start with. You half to be so sick first. But not too sick. I know it sounds funny but there is a lot of people that NEED one now! So they half to come up with something to say who goes first. see what i mean?
Good Luck, and go find a doctor that can tell you what, when, and how.

My Mother had this also but it was too late for her.  She did not find out she had cirrhosis due to a blood transfusion in 1979, until 1997.  She passed in 1998.  She also had cancer of the liver.  She was going to UVA  (Charlottesville, Va.) and was seeing a Doctor Cohan.  He was a great Dr. Wish you all the best.  Don't mean to sound depressing but seems as thought you have caught yours in time. She was not a canidate for a transplant.
