Rectal bleeding should always be investigated. You don't say how old you are but colon cancer is rare below the age of ~40. You should insist that your symptoms are investigated by a G.I. specialist - probably a colonoscopy is the most meaningful test. Don't procrastinate. If you are age 40+ and if you are unlucky to have developed colon cancer then the sooner this is treated the better.
One of my Wife's uncles delayed seeking advice for what was colon cancer and eventually died. The doctors said "if only you had come to see us sooner......" Don't let this happen to you.
