thank you for taking your time to tell me all ofthis, i feel better when i read how easy it will be once i get there , i have health anxiety and stress over the little things. ya have been to kind thank you so much i will remember all you have told me. GOD Bless you
i will report back after its done
I agree - you're done with the hard part! The prep of a colonoscopy is definitely the worst!
I also was very, very anxious and scared the first time I had to have a colonoscopy and honestly, when I woke up, I thought to myself - "now what the heck was I worried about?" LOL
Just remember - the nurses, doctors and anesthesiologists are there to take care of you and also to help make it as pleasant an experience as it can be. If , when you get there, you find that you're really nervous, mention it to them - sometimes they can give you a little something before they take you in the room to help you relax. Keep in mind, too, that the more relaxed their patient is, the easier the doctor's job is going to be - so they definitely want you as comfotable as they can keep you.
You may feel a bit "gassy" when you wake up - and of course, drowsy. Sometimes they will have you try something like some gingerale and maybe a few crackers before they release you, but sometimes not. If they don't, I do suggest that you start off slowly with something like that to see how your tummy is going to handle food/drink again. Once you're sure your stomach is ok and not queasy, etc., unless they've told you otherwise upon release, you can advance to whatever you feel like eating/drinking.
If they take some biopsies during the procedure you may have some slight discomfort and maybe a little bit of blood on your stool. If they have taken biopsies, they will give you instructions on what to watch out for as far as possible problems and if there are any other restrictions/guidelines to follow.
And of course, if you have hemorroids or fissures, your bottom may be a bit sore/tender, simply from the colonoscope being inserted - they do, of course, use a lubricant, but if your bottom is already sore from hemorroids or fissures, it still can irritate it.
I'm not telling you these things to make you worry or scare you - only so you know what you might be able to expect - what to consider "normal" and what might require at least a call to your doctor.
Honestly, though - once you've made it through that horrible prep day, the actual procedure is duck soup!
