constant nausea

by popsi, Jul 04, 2009 02:10PM
I have been having nausea for 5 months now and I need some answers!!! The nausea is usually worse when I am trying to get to sleep and in the mornings although it varies throughtout the day. I have put the topic as H. pylori because this is what one of the many docors I have seen has suggested. It had not been that and now I am left stranded. They have diagnosed me with M.E. and I have an appointment with a childrens M.E. specialist in August, but this is too far away for me to get hopeful about. Please help by suggesting anything you think it could be.

mmm.. i'm not sure what M.E. is..but anyway nausea is usually caused by a motility problem (constipation/slow moving bowels from infection and a million other reasons and so on)

You're probably going to need a bunch of tests to get to the bottom of it, what are your symptoms other than nausea?  Hows your stools? IBS-C? IBS-D? any pain?

Things off the top of my head that would cause some major nausea chronically would be ulcer, gallbladder issues, constipation, infection of some kind, liver problems, food allergy/intolerances, gastric emptying problems (stomach not working right)...there's a whole ton..I think talking to a GI specialist and maybe going to an allergist and going on a no lactose/soy/wheat/gluten diet for weeks to see if there's any improvement.

I had constant nausea (still do) for 3 years and I'm now thinking i'm celiac, and even with negative blood tests it's worth trying out.

by popsi, Jul 08, 2009 09:01AM
yes, I have been tested for celiac and it was negative. Not to say I won't experiment with food!!! My other symptomes include extreme fatigue and on and off headaches and earaches occasionaly. I am eating the same and my bowel movements and general toilet area has not changed at all. I have had 5 blood tests already but I am sure that they are just waiting to stick yet another needle inside me!!! thank you for your help, and please reply again soon, popsi

mmm...well extreme fatigue and possible nausea could be your thyroid..so that's one idea, usually you have IBS symptoms with celiac or lactose intolerance or something but you still might be eating something wrong.  Going on a food elimination diet wouldn't be a bad idea.  I know many people test negative for celiac but they're still intolerant to gluten.  Soy is a really bad one that makes me super ill.

Liver would cause nausea if there was a problem there and sometimes wouldn't affect you in IBS ways or even the pancrease..(like a cyst or something) so yeah I'm not sure..it could be a simple ulcer and it hasn't irritated your system yet.  There's a ton of possibilities but thyroid is one that causes extreme tiredness.  Best to talk to a GI specialist and look for answers..but in the meantime promethazine is a good anti-nausea..makes you sleepy but it helps in that department while you try and find answers.

Thank you so much!!! I will look into the liver problems and see how that works out. I have been tested for thyroid and negative but will still be open to any suggestions!!! Will try out the diet thingie and *** bak on that in lets say about a week. Will keep commenting because you have to be the most helpful person during this illness!!! Thank you and looking forward to your next reply,

What do you mean many doctors have 'suggested' H Pylori? Either you have an active H Pylori infection or you don't. There are tests to determine this.

by popsi, Jul 08, 2009 11:28AM
no, they have tested and thought about the possiblility of it.

by popsi, Jul 10, 2009 09:23AM
um.. dunno if anyone else got any suggestions- all so far have been helpful.

I'm sorry you are having so much trouble. Just to let you know you are not alone. I have been dealing with these issues, nausea fatigue, pain, back pain for a few years now. I've had a bunch of tests run and nothing is wrong at this point. Thank goodness but so far anxiety is the diagnosis.  I do deal with a lot of anxiety and I think I am hearing it from you as well. I know how difficult it is to wait and then anxiety makes our symptoms even worse. You will be run through a number of tests while drs try to get your symptoms under control and it all takes time while they try to piece together all the information and understand what is happening with you.  Maybe try to distract yourself.  If you have close friends maybe have them stick by you and try to get through this together.  In the meantime the drs will work to figure out what glitch you have.

Thank you very much mindbodysoul, although I am not sure anxiety is the main cause. I agree, anxiety does have a terrible consequence with this illness, so I agree with that. Yes, lots of boring tests, which is not nice when you are 10 years old!!!!!! I am also sorry for your illness, and I hope we can both figure out the cause! More comments welcome,

Hi, I would like to suggest you check your home for a natural gas leak or carbon monoxide presence. Your symptoms point to these situations, I know my family was poisoned by natural gas from a long, slow leak. We had it for so long, we couldn't smell the leak.

Our symptoms were nausea, digestive problems (esp. meats), headaches, memory problems, my son's gall bladder quit functioning, and more. PLEASE have your home checked for gas and buy some CO monitors just to be safe. The gas company will check it for you.

Doctors wont suggest this so you have to do it for yourself.
