I have had chronic constipation all my life, and I'm 52 now. The biggest help to me is to use stool softeners. Not the ones with a laxative, just the plain ones. Take at least 3 of the 100 mg. a day. Also, try prunes and more fruits and vegetables.
I also use FiberCon every other day, and you could try the new Miralax.
I'm not sure about your abdominal pains, but it could be from the severe constipation. How long has it been since you had a bowel movement?
