could using lipitor for an extended time have side effects?

My father has has been taking Lipitor for 12 years & has had his enzymes routinely checked. He recently started experiencing a pain in his upper abdomen. His doctor recently after other tests required a CAT scan & found and enlarged spleen & spots on his liver. He has no other problems. Blood work fine. Chest x-ray fine. No weight loss , No weight gain. Has a good apetite. Very active. I was just wondering if maybe this could be a side effect of taking Lipitor for so many YEARS?
