tumor 10/2008. Roughly fourteen inches was removed half of which was colon and half small intestine. Since the surgery, I have experienced seven or eight episodes of sever cramping in my colon lasting from eight to twenty hours. The cramps cycle in three to four minute intervals and last thirty to forty seconds. The pain escalates from start to finish. I get no warning when it starts or ends. It doesn't appear to happen due to a lack of bowel movement. The really strange thing is there is no shortage of apetite during the cramping period. I was advised to begin a liquid diet at the first sign of symptoms. I ignored this advice once, had a light lunch a few hours after the symptons began and the cramping quickly ended. I tried it again on another occasion and didn't have such good results. I do, normally, have diahrea once the cramping ends. The one year follow up colonoscopy indicated a fairly small opening at the anastamosis. It was suggested, between the surgeon, gastrointerologist and the oncologist that my choices are do nothing to allow the colon to adapt, have the surgeon reconnect, or have a balloon procedure to stretch the opening in the track. Questions; are other people experiencing the same problem? are there any medications that can reduce the risk of the symptoms? are there any medications that can relieve the pain? has anyone elected any of the options mentioned above?
