ct scan of abdomen

My gyn sent me in for a routine ct scan of my abdomen because of planning scar tissue surgery. I recieved a call from the nurse stating they were sending me to a GI for something because it looked like I had diverticulitis and severe infection in which they perscribed two antibiotics. If after all the antibiotics are gone, why can't he go ahead and do the scar tissue surgery? Isn't diverticulitis just an ordinary conditon? They said they were gonna wait and see what the GI says. Can they tell the difference between diverticulitis and colon cancer on the ct scan? I've just read it is pretty ordinary, and I can't understand why they have to wait once the infection is gone. Thanks,

Over 2 wks ago I finally went to my Dr. for severe pain in my intestines . My lower back would hurt even more when I would try to lay down . I was just tring to let it go because I've has I B S for years , so I thought I could deal with this . They sent me in for an emergengy C T Scan . I was told I have just the step under infection Diverticulitis ,,  which is Diverticulus . I was put on pain medication and Cipro . That was last Friday . I thought that I might be getting better because something strange went on for hours last night . I would release long sperts of like gas . But with no smell . It was almost like letting the air out of a balloon . I 've had gas before , but never nothing like this . Each release went on for alot more time than just passing regulas gas . Now today it feels like the bulbge just moved towards the front right side . Has any one out there ever experianced this ?
