Hi again:

Good for you for being so active on a daily basis.  That's wonderful.  Maidofhonor is right.  It is sad to be an alcoholic.  Please remember that alcoholism is a disease but at least it's one you can beat.  Talk to your family doctor about ways to beat the bottle.  It isn't something to be ashamed of.  Of course Alcoholics Anonymouse is a great resource.  Do a web search for alcoholism resources in your area.

The pancreas can be damaged by alcohol.  Could this be the root cause of your digestive system issues?  Since I'm not a doctor, I don't know.  If you want to get better, though, the first thing to do is to be honest with you doctors about your alcohol intake (if you've kept it from them) and anything else that you need to share.  The truth shall set you free!  Besides, there's something very empowering about starting fresh.  Something else to remember is that if you fall off the wagon, it's a TEMPORARY setback.  Relapse is part of recovery!  Hang in there, Huney!  There are support groups that will help you, all you have to do is reach out.

About your stool issues, it sounds - to the untrained observer - that this could be the start of malabsorption issues or pancreatic issues.  The last thing I want to do is scare you but the quicker you get this dealt with, the better.  Ask your Doc about prescribing enzymes immediately.  That will lessen the amount of work the pancreas has to do and lessen the damage being caused to it (if that's what's going on).  Learn more at www.enzymes.com or do a web search for pancreatic enzymes or digestive enzymes.

I wish you all the best and hope you have a speedy recovery!

Hi again:

I'm very happy to hear that you don't have pain or other symptoms.  Unless there are other symptoms, I'm honestly not sure what it means.  It could be related to a high-fibre intake or other dietary issues.  If you could think back to before this started, perhaps you would remember something new or different in your diet or even a new medication.  Start keeping a log of everything that goes in and out of your body (food, drink, medication, etc.) might help you to identify patterns and changes.  If you can, speak with the physician who ordered your colonoscopy or the GI who performed it.  If you can't talk to them or if you're unhappy with their answers, you can always find a second opinion.  Digestive and pancreatic enzymes are natural and might help you but you'll want to make sure that they only contain Proteases, Lipase and Amylase and no other active ingredients.  Prescription enzymes are the best.  There are sustained-action enzymes and immediate release enzymes.  A combination of the two can work wonders but you'd need to get instructions from your doctor and then figure out what works best for you.  Enzymes take several weeks before they work.  Enzymes are also sold in health food stores but, again, watch the ingredients.  Enzymes and stool go hand-in-hand.  You're obviously anxious about it but you don't want to do anything that CREATES symptoms.  I'm adding a few more links and you can always create a new post and hope that someone with personal or professional experience can help you.

All the best,

Sam

Hi there:

I'm so sorry you are suffering.  First off, we're talking about something that is difficult to discuss in polite society.  When someone is having a problems, polite society goes out the window and we need to talk in plain, simple terms.  You will not offend or upset anyone, so just be honest and someone might be able to help.  I'm not sure if I understand your problem yet.  Are you finding undigested food in your stool?  Are having very loose bowel movements that dissipates as soon as it makes contact with the water in the toilet?  Do you have diarrhea?  Any other symptoms or abdominal pain?

Here is a link to the Bristol Stool Chart and it might help:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bristol_Stool_Chart#Bristol_Stool_Chart

Feel free to write back or create a new post.  I don't check this site very often but I'll try to check back.

All the best,

Sam
